Manufacturing and factory workers are exposed to heavy machinery, repetitive motion, loud noise, vibration, chemicals and physically demanding tasks. The injury and illness rates in this sector are significant — and many conditions that develop over years of factory work can permanently end a working career.
Common TPD conditions in manufacturing
- Machinery crush injuries causing limb damage or amputation
- Repetitive strain injuries — carpal tunnel, tendinitis, shoulder conditions
- Hearing loss from prolonged noise exposure
- Respiratory conditions from dust, fumes or chemical exposure
- Back and musculoskeletal conditions from heavy lifting and vibration
Workers' compensation and TPD
A factory injury may generate both a workers' compensation claim and a TPD claim through your super. These are separate entitlements and can typically both be pursued. See our guide on TPD for workplace injuries.
Check your super cover
Many factory workers are members of industry funds such as Cbus or AustralianSuper, and have TPD cover included by default. Check all current and past super accounts. Start with a free eligibility check.
