Temporary residents and visa holders who worked in Australia often have superannuation — and that super can include TPD insurance. If illness or injury stopped you working, you may be able to claim.
You may have cover
If you were employed in Australia, your employer likely paid super, and default TPD cover may have applied. See how to find TPD cover.
Claim before leaving if you can
Claims are far easier to run while you're in Australia, where you can obtain reports from Australian-registered doctors and attend any insurer-requested examinations. Lodging from overseas is harder and tends to have higher rejection rates.
Evidence requirements
Claims must be supported by Australian medical evidence — detailed specialist reports, not just GP certificates. Be mindful of time limits, which often require lodging within about two years of becoming disabled.
