A common worry is: “I can still do a bit of light work — does that mean I can't claim TPD?” Not necessarily.
It depends on the definition
- Own occupation: the question is whether you can return to your job — not whether you can do any work at all.
- Any occupation: assesses whether you can work in a role suited to your training, education and experience — which considers more than minimal or unsustainable work.
Token work usually isn't enough to disqualify
Being able to do a few hours of light, casual or unsustainable work doesn't always mean you have a genuine capacity to work in a meaningful, ongoing role.
Don't self-disqualify
Many people assume they can't claim because they can do something small. That assumption can cost them a significant payout.
