How to Check Your TPD Cover in Your Super Account

5 May 2026 · 5 min read

Most Australians have TPD cover in their super but have no idea how much — or if it's still active. Here's how to find out in just a few minutes.

Most Australians who have ever worked and contributed to super have TPD insurance — but very few have checked how much they have or whether it's still active. Here's how to find out.

Method 1: Your super fund's website or app

Log into your super fund's online portal. Most funds have a dedicated "Insurance" section showing:

  • Whether you have TPD cover
  • The cover amount
  • The type of cover (own occupation or any occupation)
  • Whether cover is current

Method 2: Your annual super statement

Your most recent annual statement should include a summary of your insurance cover. Look for a section labelled "Insurance" or "Death & TPD."

Method 3: Call your super fund

If you can't find the information online, call your fund's member services line. Have your member number ready.

Method 4: Check all your super accounts via myGov

Many people have super scattered across multiple funds from past employers. Log into myGov, link your ATO account, and view all registered super accounts. Check each one for TPD cover. See our guide to finding lost super.

Once you know your cover, our free eligibility check can help you understand whether a claim is likely to succeed.
