How to Find Lost Super & TPD Cover (myGov & ATO)

23 June 2026 · 6 min read

There's roughly $13.8 billion in lost and unclaimed super in Australia — and some of it carries TPD cover. Here's how to find yours.

Many Australians have super scattered across old accounts from previous jobs — and each one could carry TPD cover. The ATO holds billions in lost and unclaimed super, so a quick search can uncover forgotten accounts and extra potential claims.

Use the myGov + ATO search

The fastest way to see every fund linked to your tax file number is to log in to myGov and link the ATO. Under the super section you can view all your accounts, including lost and ATO-held super, in one list.

Check each account for insurance

Once you have the list, check each fund for TPD insurance — see how to find TPD cover in your super. You may be able to claim against more than one, as explained in claiming across multiple super funds.

Important: don't rush to consolidate

If you're planning a TPD claim, don't consolidate or close accounts first — rolling over or closing a fund can cancel valuable insurance cover. Check the cover before you touch anything.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find all my super accounts?

Log in to myGov and link the ATO. The super section lists every fund linked to your tax file number, including lost and ATO-held super.

Should I consolidate my super before a TPD claim?

No. Consolidating or closing accounts can cancel TPD insurance. If you're considering a claim, check the cover in each fund before making any changes.

Can old super accounts still have TPD cover?

Yes. Default TPD insurance is common, and old accounts from previous jobs may still carry cover that supports a claim.
