TPD claims take time, and bills don't stop. While you generally can't withdraw your full super until a claim is approved, there are limited ways to access some money sooner.
Financial hardship
If you've received eligible Centrelink payments for a continuous period (commonly 26 weeks) and can't meet reasonable immediate living expenses, you may be able to withdraw a limited amount. You apply directly to your super fund.
Compassionate grounds
For specific needs — medical treatment, modifying a home or vehicle for a disability, or preventing foreclosure — you can apply through the ATO, supported by quotes, invoices and medical reports.
Interim TPD payments
Some funds offer advance or interim payments under severe hardship while a claim is assessed, usually requiring strong evidence and an agreement to repay if the claim fails.
It won't hurt your TPD claim
An early-release application is a separate process and doesn't reduce your eligibility for the TPD benefit itself. Be mindful that a payout can interact with Centrelink and may be taxed.
